Jim Lehrer dies at 85 anchor of 'PBS NewsHour
Jim Lehrer, co-founder and longtime anchor of 'PBS NewsHour,' dies at 85
Jim Lehrer, a longtime anchorman for PBS who appeared on the air for more than 30 years until his retirement in 2011, died Thursday at 85, the news organization announced.
Lehner died “peacefully in his sleep,” according to PBS. He had suffered a heart attack in 1983 and more recently, had undergone heart valve surgery in April 2008.
Lehrer was born in 1934 in Wichita, Kansas

George Hursey Massachusetts' last known Pearl Harbor survivor dies at 98
Weighing in at 150 pounds despite being 5 feet 10 inches tall, Hursey joined the Army in 1939, after a year of struggling to find work following his graduation from high school. Hursey told The Enterprise in 2016 that the Army paid $21 a month, a high wage for someone with his background.

Rep. John Lewis, D-Ga., an icon of the civil rights movement, will undergo treatment for stage 4 pancreatic cancer, his office said Sunday.
He learned of the diagnosis this month, after what Lewis, 79, described as a "routine medical visit and subsequent tests."
"While I am clear-eyed about the prognosis, doctors have told me that recent medical advances have made this type of cancer treatable in many cases, that treatment options are no longer as debilitating as they once were, and that I have a fighting chance," Lewis said in the statement.
Lewis, who represents Georgia's 5th Congressional District, covering most of Atlanta, said he plans to return to Washington "in coming days to continue our work and begin my treatment plan, which will occur over the next several weeks."
