Muhammad Ali dies aged 74: Greatest boxer of all time passes away with family at his side
Muhammad Ali has died aged 74, a day after he was rushed to hospital with breathing difficulties. The legendary boxer died with his family at his side on Friday evening. It was earlier reported that Muhammad Ali's family had started making funeral arrangements after doctors warned that the legendary boxer was just hours from death. His reported respiratory problems were likely complicated by his Parkinson's disease. He is pictured left in September 2011 at a gala in California which honoured him. As widely known for his quick skills and moves inside the ring, Ali was also known for the dozens of inspiring, sometimes hilarious quotes he said throughout his life.


He always said he was 'the greatest' - and he was. First as Cassius Clay and then as Muhammad Ali, he was idolised and vilified in almost equal measure until he achieved the status of a global icon.


Muhammad Ali has gone to touch gloves with his maker after the longest, bravest, most anguished struggle of his phenomenal fighting life. Jeff Powell pays tribute to The Greatest.

Heartfelt tributes were pouring in within minutes after family confirmed that legendary boxer Muhammad Ali died, aged 74. Ali, known simply as The Greatest, was admired and loved by the world, from politicians to sportsmen and fellow boxer Mike Tyson was one of the first to express his sadness. Republican presumptive nominee Donald Trump also spoke out within minutes, tweeting: 'Muhammad Ali is dead at 74! A truly great champion and a wonderful guy. He will be missed by all!'. Ali's family said his funeral would be held in his hometown of Louisville, Kentucky, and thanked the public for their outpouring of support.

Teacher 'who had continuous sex with pupil told to stay away from minors 
Alexandria Vera, 24, who allegedly got pregnant after sex with her 13-year-old student, was formally read the charges against her at an arraignment hearing in Houston, Texas, on Friday but did not enter a plea. Judge Michael T McSpadden told Vera she was to have no contact with the victim or anyone under the age of 17. He also ordered Vera - who is out on $100,000 bail - to wear a GPS monitor and to stay away from the school. Theformer teacher at Stovall Middle School was also banned from accessing the internet and put on a curfew to remain in her home between 8pm and 7am each day. Vera turned herself in to police on Wednesday after a warrant was issued for her arrest on charges of continuous sexual abuse of a child. She was released hours later after she posted a $100,000 bond.

The Honduran mother who delivered what is believed to be the first baby to be born with a Zika virus-related condition in the New York tri-state area has broken her silence. In an interview with Fox News Latino, the young mother (pictured bottom right), whose name has not been released publicly, explained that her initial symptoms were 'underestimated' by medical doctors in her native land. She was diagnosed with Zika in Honduras before she traveled to New Jersey, where she has relatives, to seek treatment. The woman, who is unsure of how she contracted the virus, said that it may have happened because of a mosquito bite. She gave birth to a baby girl by cesarean section on Tuesday at Hackensack UMC. The baby has intestinal and visual issues.

Salling, 33, is facing up to 40 years in prison after a grand jury made the decision last week to indict him on two charges of receiving and possessing child pornography.

US Army Special Forces troops airlifted from one of Colorado's highest peaks
U.S. Army Special Forces troops were airlifted on Friday from a mountain peak inside Colorado's Rocky Mountain National Park after two members of the team suffered altitude sickness during a training exercise, a military spokesman said. The team was climbing Longs Peak on Thursday when the soldiers became ill and the group was forced to camp overnight while on its way to the summit, Army Special Forces spokesman Lt. Col. Sean Ryan said in a telephone interview. It had originally been planned as a one-day climb, he said. Longs Peak has an altitude of 14,259 feet, according to a National Park Service website.

Two teenage girls are being accused of beating an elderly woman so severely that she had to be rushed to a New York City hospital. The young women were traveling together on a subway car Thursday afternoon when a 78-year-old passenger reportedly approached the two and asked one of them if she could take her feet off the seat in order to make room for her to sit down. Then, when the elderly woman got off at one of the next stations stops, the two teenagers allegedly followed her onto the subway platform and began to kick and punch her in her head and face before jumping on an approaching train and making their getaway.

The Cedar Hill Police Department in Cedar Hill, Texas, posted the image on its Facebook page this week.  A girl named Chloe hold hands with Marshals Leland Herron and Jack Wallace in the snap. Cedar Hill police said: 'Marshals Herron and Wallace admit they've never had anyone pray with them and that her prayer was so beautiful.'

Guled Ali Omar, 21, Abdirahman Yasin Daud, 22, Mohamed Abdihamid Farah, 22 convicted Friday in Minneapolis. They were found guilty of plotting to travel to Syria to join the Islamic State.


The accident happened around noon near the town of Mosier. It involved eight cars filled with oil, and one was burning, said Ken Armstrong, state Forestry Department spokesman.
